The original ambitious plans were conceived as a result of an announcement made by Sheikh Sudais during his visit in 2003 with very good acquaintances of the Sheikh had promised to cover the entire cost of the project. However, this has not been possible due to unexpected global circumstances. Hence the consideration was given to break down the construction work into phases after the groundwork and several surveys were conducted, and with the assistance of consultations with the public and professionals.

The actual construction work began by relocating and demolishing the existing Victorian building. Onsite preparation started in June 2011 with the insertion of the partition and purchase of portable cabins. Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Saleh (revered teacher of Imams of the Haram) with the help of key supporters of the project, laid the foundation stone launching the start of the construction work on Friday 30th May 2014. Below are the proposed plans for each floor of the new Mosque building.

Phase 1
A total of £963,084.77 was spent on this phase which mainly consisted of work relating to the foundations and basement. Please see below for a breakdown of what was involved.
  • Work took place between the summer of 2014 and May 2015 by Turney Wylde, who were appointed to perform the construction work for phase 1.
  • Construction site (6200m sq.) was prepared and digging and excavating of the land for the basement area (4000m sq.) followed.
  • Underground waste water collection tank, drainage system and key infrastructure supplies installed.
  • Building of the retaining walls and foundations, waterproofing, double insulation, filling the remaining gaps surrounding the walls & erecting safety barriers.
  • The total cost for this phase was £963,084.77
Phase 2
We have almost reached our phase 2 target which will cost about £2 million and will result in a watertight new building. Please see below for a breakdown of what will be involved.
  • 7 months scheduled duration.
  • Assembly of structural steel work:  Erection of structural steel work consists of the assembly of steel components into a frame on-site. Process can involve lifting and placing structural elements into position, then connecting them together. Generally this is achieved through bolting but sometimes site welding is used.
  • Glass Facade: Procurement & assembly of structural glass thereby ensuring the build is watertight.
Phase 3

Phase 3 will consist of all the interior work for our fantastic new facilities such as the prayer halls, classrooms and library. Please see below for a breakdown of what will be involved.

New Mosque Project

Phase 2 50%

The New Mosque Project has came a long way from it’s humble beginnings, due to unfortunate circumstances the original promise of funding could not be fulfilled, so the responsibility came upon the mosque and local community to raise the funds. Alhamdulillah, we have now completed Stage A of Phase 2  which consisted of erecting the entire steel structure, slabs and insulation between the slabs of the full building. Now for Stage B of Phase 2 we have over 50% of the funds, this stage will consist of enveloping the entire building with bricks and glass.
